This year has been laden with stark contradictions; the film world is no exception. People have turned to the arts for comfort and familiarity, as well as to be entertained and challenged. Streaming platforms have thrived, while legacy film houses—both for- and not-for-profit—have struggled. You have surely read about many which will likely never reopen. Survival has mandated pivoting to virtual programming and pay-per-view online offerings.

As a young, nimble organization, cinéSPEAK was in a good position to make this pivot. This is not to say that 2020 has not thrown existential challenges our way. We lost out on tens-of-thousands of dollars in projected income, a significant sum for the size of our budget. More than ever before, your financial contributions have kept us going.
